This afternoon, it
came to close. Thunderheads in the sky, rumbling thunder that kept Sophie close
to my side—and then a smattering of scattered big drops. That was it. A friend
was out at the southwest edge of town, and she said it was pouring. For about
ten minutes. The forecast was for pop-up showers, but as Christian lamented
last night they so rarely pop up. I do believe, however, that it’s cooler
tonight. We may not feel a lot of difference because the humidity is high.
Still praying for rain.
Nice start to the
day. Jordan wanted something from Central Market, so we went early to do our grocery
shopping—well, really it was my shopping. Her objection to going there is that
parking is so difficult, but at 9:30 our favorite spot was open. I realized
today that I like it not only because they have lots of things that I like and can’t get
elsewhere but also because the aisles are wide and uncluttered. I have little
trouble navigating the motorized scooter—unless people linger in the middle of
the aisle, and then I just say, “Excuse me, please” as gently as possible and
when they apologetically move, I favor them with my biggest smile and heartiest
thank-you. Shopping there got my day off to a terrific start.
An unremarkable
day otherwise. Not much accomplished. But tonight, Jean and I went to my favorite
Japanese restaurant and shared a cod bowl with sautéed veggies—including beet
greens, which I like a lot. She had an appetizer of Brussel sprouts that were
sort of lightly tempura style. Dipped in soy, they were delectable, but it was
a huge bowl. I helped by eating two. My cucumber salad was also good but large,
much more cucumber than I can eat at one time. All in all a relaxed meal over
which we could talk about some heady issues. Didn’t solve the problems of the
world, but we came close.
Too late to be
industrious tonight. I’m going back to my book.
