Well, there’s no
question why it takes Christian so much longer to fix a meal than it does me. He
sent me this picture because the colors are so vibrant, but the first thing I
noticed was how finely chopped the vegetables are. I never chopped anything
that fine in my life! What you’re seeing is ingredients for the shepherd’s pie
we had last night. So good.
Otherwise, this is
a week with no structure. I have an absolutely empty calendar—except for a
breakfast meeting and a doggie birthday tomorrow--and my desk is about in the
same condition. I’ve sent my latest mystery manuscript to an editor and sent
the cookbook manuscript to a copy editor and a chef for perusal. And,
truthfully, although I have ideas bouncing around in my head, I’m not ready to
start another mystery so quickly.
So today was a reading
day—now where did I put those bon bons to munch on while I read? It was
pleasant and absorbing, but I sure don’t want too many days like that. Jordan
and I sat on the patio for a bit this evening, but it was hot and still, and she
is in a boot due to a sprained ankle and broken toe and after a while she had
to go inside.
I did fix a good,
light supper. My mom used to mix grated cheddar, a healthy dash of
Worcestershire, a chopped scallion, and a pinch of dry mustard. She’d add just
enough mayo to bind and use the mixture to stuff mushrooms. I spread it on
toasted sourdough tonight, topped it with fresh asparagus, and popped it in the
toaster oven until the cheese melted and the asparagus was slightly cooked.
Delicious, but sourdough crusts are hard to cut!
Back to my book,
which I really am liking. Have a good week, everyone!
